How to choose flowers for Mothers day

Back to blog

Fresh Flowers will forever be a beautiful way to show someone you love that you love them. They can represent so many different things, from love to joy to sorrow to “I’m sorry”. After the challenging few years our world has had, we could all use more beautiful things in our daily lives, so for Mother’s Day this year, why not show her you love her through a bouquet of flowers?

Flowers in the home elevates our happiness levels – purely from just being present! Who doesn’t want to receive daily happiness for Mother’s Day?

We all know that red roses represent romantic love and white lilies symbolise sorrow for funerals, but what do the millions of other flowers and their colours mean? Which ones are best suited to your mother/maternal figure?

Below I’ve compiled a list of some popular Mother’s Day flowers and what they represent to make things a wee bit easier for you;

Chrysanthemums:

Okay firstly – ‘mum’ is literally in the name of this flower so already you can’t go wrong! These cheerful beauties are available in a wide variety of colours so you can easily pick your mum’s favourite while gifting her a flower that represents joy, love and longevity!

Carnations:

Delicate and beautiful, different colours can mean different things with carnations. Pink is the most commonly used for maternal figures in your life as they are a representation of appreciation and love. They clearly say, ‘Thanks for doing a great job raising me, I really appreciate you’. Similarly, red carnations strongly give a message of admiration and respect.

Roses:

Classic, simple, stunning. Roses are an everlasting symbol of a deep love. A mother’s love is eternal, she’s the one who has known you since before you were born and that love runs deep. Pink and yellow roses represent gratitude as well as love and our mothers give us so much to be grateful to them for. These are a great addition to your Mother’s Day bouquet.

Lilies:

Timeless elegance is what comes to mind when we think of lilies, and for some of us – our mothers! While we mentioned before about how these are classic funeral flowers, Lilies can also strongly represent femininity, purity and devotion. Lilies are bold and expressive flowers that can fill a room with their beautiful aroma.

So say “I Love You Mum’ in the most beautiful, fragrant way possible this Mother’s Day – with flowers!
